Natural Habitat :

It is endemic to regions west of the Mediterranean, where it forms a thick, sizeable belt in unpolluted areas, on the rocks lit by the sun and beaten by waves.

Harvest :

This perennial alga has numerous brown and olive-coloured fronds. It fixes itself to the bedrock and can reach 40cm in length, with a bush-like appearance. It is rough and almost spiny to touch. The younger branches have an intense blue-green colour when immersed: they are iridescent. At the end of summer, it shrinks and loses a large portion of its branches.

Components :

It is very rich in minerals, mannitol and alginic acid. It also contains polyphenols, terpenes and laminarins.

Characteristics :

It is very sensitive to pollution and can only be found in clear, pure water. It is therefore a good biological indicator.
